How to build a financial plan for 2026

03.09.2026

A financial plan doesn’t need to be complicated to be useful. Start with a simple list of fixed monthly costs — rent, utilities, existing loan payments — and compare that against your actual income.

Once the fixed costs are mapped, set aside a small buffer for irregular expenses before deciding what’s left for savings or discretionary spending. Even a modest buffer reduces the chance you’ll need to borrow for a surprise cost.

Revisit the plan every few months, especially if prices or your income change. A plan that was accurate in January can drift by mid-year without a quick check-in.
